MasterCard SecureCode is a new service that lets you shop online with added confidence using your MasterCard or Maestro card. A private code known only by you and your card issuer gives added protection against unauthorized use of your card when shopping at participating online merchants.

It's as easy to use as entering your PIN at an ATM to confirm your identity. You register your card just once with your card issuer, and create your own SecureCode and Personal Greeting message.

During checkout at a participating online store/retailer, a MasterCard SecureCode window will appear containing your chosen Personal Greeting message as your assurance that you are communicating with your card issuer. Provided the Personal Greeting message is correct, simply enter your SecureCode and click submit. Your identity is verified by your card issuing bank and the purchase is secure.

If an incorrect SecureCode is entered, the purchase will not be completed. So provided you've already registered to use the service, even if someone knows your credit or debit card number, the purchase cannot be completed without your SecureCode when shopping at a participating store/retailer.

To activate MasterCard SecureCode in your MasterCard or Maestro card, or to learn more, contact the financial institution that issued your card. Alternatively, you may be prompted by your card issuer to register for the MasterCard SecureCode service during the checkout process of a participating retailer, if you have not already done so.
